Surge in Claim Numbers

Ruth Powell, Head of Clinical Negligence at Hugh James, said soon after her arrival on 16th September the number of people who have approached the Clinical Negligence team up to that point was “over 50”. On Tuesday this week while discussing on Saint FM developments since her arrival, the total number of claim applications was now around 80 to 85.
Hugh James need to assess each application for legal representation to claim against Sergio’s clinical negligence to ensure there is a case to answer. Applications have already been ‘signed up’ and undoubtedly more will follow.

Ruth said they have met several of the people they have previously signed up to represent and it was good to talk face to face with their clients. Also, new people had approached them to explain their own personal circumstances in connection with Sergio’s clinical treatment. With only three full days before Ruth and Isobel Summers fly back to the UK, Ruth said their appointments diary was completely full. This did not prevent anyone from contacting them; accepting new claimants will continue for some time to come. Ruth and other representatives from Hugh James Solicitors will make another visit to St Helena early next year.
