St Helena’s first Cricket Match
St Helena’s first match yesterday (Saturday) was against firm favourites Nigeria in the Africa T20 World Cup Sub-Qualifier Group Stage. Nigeria batted first, scoring 186 for the loss of 2 wickets. Aiden Leo and Scott Crowie took the wickets for St Helena. St Helena’s run total was 67.
The last St Helena wicket was taken with the first ball of the 20th over. St Helena batsmen commented the pitch was spongy and not what they are used to. While Nigeria are ranked 36th in the world by the International Cricket Council, it seems the St Helena team would have been happier if they had notched up more like 100 runs.
Today, Sunday, St Helena play Eswatini, ranked at 82 by the ICC. St Helena will be looking for a better result, pitch conditions permitting.
