Subaru Solterra Charged Up on St Helena Roads

Subaru Solterra on St Helena Island

Global car manufacturer Subaru and Norwegian EV charger brand Easee partnered with the St Helena Government to test the feasibility and adaptability of EV technology in a two-month trial on St Helena roads.

It was connected to the St Helena grid by island power provider Connect St Helena, and was used to charge an all-electric Subaru Solterra, which was put through its paces across the rugged St Helena landscape.

The Solterra easily tackled St Helena's sealed and dirt roads, tight lanes and volcanic landscapes. A full day of driving, covering roughly 50 miles on the 10x5-mile island, consumed less than 20% of the battery.

Lorraine Bishton, managing director of Subaru UK said, “To be honest, if you can operate an electric vehicle in this type of environment, then you really can anywhere.”

The Easee charging point will remain on St Helena as part of an expanding charging network being installed for a small fleet of electric cars being imported for tourist and islander use in 2025.
